God's Apology by Jason Visconti
What I owe you is last and final,
like a cold rush of storm.
I owe you the unthinkable bird that sours by with upturned wings, and a raised, cocked head made for superheroes. Made for legends. Yes, thats it, of course the man who sleeps in his cage gets restless but here I am, rolling on one side, barking down orders, wistfully checking the clock for seasons. You dont want to be me-- you think I enjoy carrying this staff, this blighted torch of terror, this rod that leads me straight in?
What do you think I am? An animal?
